Beach Rehabilitation and Monitoring at Marine
Park, Bellingham
Marine Park was a heavily altered and popular shoreline park in the Fairhaven district of Bellingham. The Marine Park beach rehabilitation project was completed as part of larger Bellingham Bay wide
habitat restoration efforts, in which CGS played a key role. CGS provided the
beach restoration design for the design team that removed the failing revetment
and replaced it with a gravel beach in fall, 2004. Approximately 7,000 cubic
yards of rock, debris, and fill were removed from the site and a gravel beach
extending down to +4 ft MLLW and up to a broad sand-covered backshore area was completed.
CGS will perform annual post-project physical monitoring, including beach
stability and the position of beach sediment relative to nearby eelgrass beds.
