Recent bulkhead removal projects have occurred in San Juan County through partner organization Friends of the San Juan's. Coastal Geologic Services has provided technical elements including assessment and design of structure removal and habitat restoration work. This work has been a continuation of assessment and prior decision work conducted by CGS in partnership with the Friends of the San Juan's.

More and more private residents are looking to remove old failing bulkheads in favor of more naturalized softshore protection designs. Whether identified through shoreline reach restoration assessments or neighbors practicing good shoreline stewardship, a number of bulkhead removal projects on private property are currently underway in the Puget Sound area.
